The Rubik's ‘Professor's Cube’ is the 5x5x5 version of the famous 3x3x3. There are 98 pieces on the outside of the cube: 8 corner cubelets, 36 edge cubelets (two types), and 54 center cubelets. The full number of permutations for the 5x5x5 cube has been calculated at 282 870 942 277 741 856 536 180 333 107 150 328 293 127 731 985 672 134 721 536 000 000 000 000 000. Which is about 283 duodecillion on the long scale or 283 trevigintillion on the short scale - (no - I had never heard of a these “illions” either!!) So it’s not for the feint hearted. However, a knowledge of how to solve the 3x3x3 or the 4x4x4 will help you a lot. Please note that a solving hints booklet is not included in the 5x5x5 package.
